Daft drafts

Well, folks, the drafts for the Kansas City Roller Warriors 2012 season are officially over. Now, we’re all waiting.

This is the part that sucks.

We were told tonight that we’d know within the next 24 hours whether we’re officially drafted into a team. Then next week, we’ll be told at a Draft Party to which team specifically we’ve been drafted.

In my impatience, I can’t help but laugh. I’ve talked frequently about how roller derby is sort of a rough-and-tumble sorority, and this whole waiting-for-word thing just proves that point.

I wish I had the energy to talk about how excited I am for this opportunity. But in all honesty, I have a child’s outlook on Christmas going through my head — the sooner I get to bed, the sooner I wake up and get the call about where I stand.

So keep your fingers crossed, because if I’m officially a Kansas City Roller Warrior, I’ll still have another week of anxiety ahead of me.

I love this. And honestly, despite my nerves, I wouldn’t want it to be any other way.

And just when I was ready to hit “PUBLISH” I got the word — I’ve been drafted! Stay tuned, folks. I still have a lot of waiting to do.
