Happy 75 years, roller derby!

It was 75 years ago today that roller derby was born in the amazing city of Chicago. After dreaming of playing for years, I finally joined late last year and will never look back.

I’m proud to be a part of this sport’s history. It’s definitely not for everyone; but for those of us it is for, it’s an incredible feeling to be part of something that you only “get” when you play.

So to all of you derby girls out there, happy day to all of us, and THANK GOD for the impact Leo Seltzer has had on all of us.

  • Lynn, I am just trying to get started again since my sicworld site is gone now. I’m lacking inspiration though. So maybe soon I’ll do something interesting with it. 🙂

Amkuska, roller derby is a women’s contact sport that’s played on roller skates. Points are scored as two individual players lap members of their opposing teams while both teams play offense and defense simultaneously. It’s highly competitive, somewhat dangerous, and something with which I am completely in love.
