Don’t mess with Texas

I recently spoke about bout marketing at the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) annual conference. One of the things I brought up about what I think roller derby is sorely under utilizing is the fan experience. What I mean by that is that in every other sport, you see advertising that focuses on what the fans are going through — whether it’s displayed on their faces, or painted on their bodies, or shown in the colors they’re wearing on their backs. Where are our fans in roller derby? I know they’re out there (Here’s looking at you, Turn Three Fanclub!).

And then THIS. Leave it to the godmothers of all roller derby leagues to come up with the very thing I was talking about, just two weeks after I was lamenting about why we don’t have something like this in our sport.

Well played, Texas. Well played.
